Applications being accepted for Graduate Research Assistantships

The Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) invites applications from EPIC Associate Faculty members for Graduate Research Assistantships for the academic year 2017-18. Preference will be given to new, incoming PhD or MSc students. Multiple assistantships are available.

Selected applicants will receive a 9-month $18,000 (PhD) or $15,000(MSc) EPIC power/energy research assistantship to work with the EPIC Associate Faculty Member on power/energy research endeavors. Responsibilities of the RAs include:

  • provide research assistance and support for their EPIC Associate Faculty member in the design, execution and evaluation of research projects;
  • prepare a progress report to the EPIC Director at the end of each semester;
  • attend events and help host EPIC guests as requested by the EPIC Director; and
  • attend all EPIC seminars in the spring and fall series (***** this is a requirement *****)

Please note: The graduate student does not need to be enrolled at the time of your application submission. This is a recruiting tool to bring new students to campus. Students who are enrolling now do not need to be recruited. If your student does not come or is not accepted to UNC Charlotte this award is non-transferable.

Faculty members should nominate each applicant by providing:

  • CV/resume of the student ;
  • ½ to 1 page summary of reasons the student qualifies for the assistantship;
  • ½ to 1 page description of the research project for the student and how it is related to power/energy ; and
  • official (sealed) transcript from all universities attended by the student (unofficial transcripts may be submitted if official transcripts were submitted for the graduate admission application.

No handwritten applications will be accepted. Faculty must submit the package of materials by 5:00 PM March 8,2017 to rmoose2@uncc.edu, or mail to Robin Moose, Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC).

Selection of recipients will be based on strength of qualifications and on strength of support provided to one of the EPIC research clusters.
